Christian Monterrosa joins LION Publishers as our Community Manager
He will focus on fostering an engaged community among LION members and those interested in news entrepreneurship.
Whenever LION Publishers asks our more than 400 members about where they find value in our membership program, we often hear that connecting with and learning from their fellow independent news entrepreneurs is among the most important.
That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Christian Monterrosa to our team as LION’s community manager, a role that will be focused on fostering an engaged community among LION members and those interested in news entrepreneurship. Christian’s work will include:
- Connecting with LION’s current and prospective members to ensure their needs directly inform our programming and community engagement strategy
- Serving as the primary connector between members and as the primary liaison between LION and our members by providing them with or pointing them to the support and resources they need
- Working with LION’s staff, members and partners to share and adapt training, peer-learning and connection opportunities.
Christian joins LION after working as a freelance photojournalist for outlets including The New York Times, The Associated Press, Bloomberg and others. He most recently covered wildfires in California, political extremism in Washington, D.C., and the uprising following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Bilingual in Spanish and English, Christian’s work as a photojournalist and, previously, as a reporter relied on his commitment to build relationships with community members to establish trust and to help make news and information more accessible to underserved communities.
Christian is originally from Los Angeles, California, where he served as the National Press Photographers Association West Region Chair and was involved in the Online News Association’s Los Angeles chapter. He is currently based in Boston, Massachusetts.
We’re so excited to have Christian join LION in this role to help us support our community of independent news entrepreneurs as they build and develop sustainable businesses. You can reach him at [email protected].
